Breadalbane Plains Landcare recently held a “Birds on Farms” Field day at the Breadalbane Hall with Tony Saunders. The group of 20 Landcarers went out for a walk on a very cold and windy day to discuss the success and failures of previous landcare plantings with regard to bird habitat.
The group were delighted to find, even on such a cold and windy day a great variety of birds including some threatened species and birds which only occur with connected habitats.
After the field walk the group held their AGM and appointed a new chairperson, Gillian Malcolm to replace Shlomi Bonet and Bronwyn Leslie as Public Officer, replacing the very long standing Jenny Bell. Deb Macpherson was re-elected as Secretary/ Treasurer.
Also stepping up to the commitee were, Sonya Duus, Tania Neilson, Jenny Bell and Mary and Shlomi Bonet, making a very female dominated Landcare committee, a big shift from its inception 20 years ago.
The group have some upcoming events such as Dung Beetle Workshop on 25th September at Bohara (see flyer Dung Beetle Workshop) and will be kicking off the Upper Lachlan Soils Skills competition in October.
The group are also working with Upper Lachlan Landcare, Greening Australia and Australian River Restoration Centre on a 20 Million tree bid and an Environmental Trust Restoration and Rehabilitation Grant.
